On July 26, 2026, WEMIX confirmed that the ownership of a WEMIX$-related smart contract had been compromised, allowing an attacker to mint tokens without authorization. The incident affected the wider WEMIX3.0 ecosystem.
According to the official update, the attacker used the compromised ownership privileges to issue approximately 5,225,525 WEMIX$. A portion of these tokens was converted into 30,736 WEMIX and 724,198.27 USDC.e. The USDC.e was then bridged to Ethereum and BNB Chain, swapped for assets including ETH and USDT, and distributed across multiple wallets; some of the funds were then deposited into centralized exchanges.
WEMIX stated that the attacker's wallets and the full flow of funds have been identified and remain under active tracking. Freeze and cooperation requests have been submitted to relevant exchanges and stablecoin issuers, with some platforms already confirming freezes on linked addresses. All figures remain preliminary and may change as the investigation continues.
In response, WEMIX suspended all bridges connected to and from WEMIX3.0, including Chainlink CCIP and the PLAY Bridge. Trading was halted in several affected liquidity pools, and liquidity provided by the WEMIX Foundation was withdrawn immediately.
Key services were also paused. The WEMIX$ Module and PNIX DEX were taken offline along with their backend systems. Blockchain-integrated features in certain games were restricted, NFT marketplace trading and bidding were disabled, and protective measures were applied to relevant WEMIX PLAY functions.
Internal teams and external security experts are now conducting a thorough review to determine the exact cause of the ownership compromise. A broader inspection of related contracts is also underway. WEMIX emphasized that protecting users and the wider ecosystem remains the highest priority, with further updates expected as the investigation progresses and recovery plans take shape.
The incident follows an earlier statement released the same day that acknowledged a potential security issue and urged caution regarding unverified information. While the full scope is still being assessed, WEMIX has already suspended bridges, withdrawn liquidity, and paused several services in response.
