My cat was judging me. 🐈 I could tell by the way she was staring at my smart speaker. “You talk to that thing more than you talk to me,” her eyes seemed to say. She had a point. Between asking for the weather and settling dumb debates (“Hey Google, is a hot dog a sandwich?”), I was broadcasting my life to a black plastic cylinder.
That got me thinking: what if these things are talking back? And not just to me.
I was hunting a company called “VocalHome” — they make those fancy voice assistants for “smart apartments.” Their marketing was all about “privacy-first voice AI” and “on-device processing.” Translation: “Trust us, we’re not listening.” 🤥
Spoiler: They were. And I could make them listen to me.
