“Hey, can you restart that SSH session for the fifth time today?”
“Bro, I was in the middle of a production patch! The terminal just… vanished.”
That was the conversation between me and my junior engineer, Kevin, in the middle of a critical security patch for a one of our clinet side data servers.
If you’ve worked in cybersecurity operations, you know the pain of losing an SSH session while applying patches, when you’re inside a restricted data center with 1,000+ production servers.
That’s when I introduced Kevin to terminal multiplexers — the greatest invention since firewalls and coffee. And of course, we had to settle the age-old war:
