A Journey from Convenience to Community Essential

Two decades ago, we introduced a service to map IP addresses and netblocks, both IPv4 and IPv6, to the Autonomous System Numbers (ASNs) announcing them on the internet. What began as a convenient tool for us—facilitating the issuance of compromised device alerts based on the ASN routing the compromised IP address—has evolved into one of our longest-standing and most popular community services.

Growing with the Community

Our IP to ASN mapping service has been entirely rewritten and updated multiple times to meet the evolving needs of our users. It has become an integral part of numerous products and services, with many in the community developing tools and parsers to leverage this free resource. The exponential growth to over 1.5 billion daily queries is a testament to our users seeing continued value and utility.
