Room: Advent of Cyber 2023 Day 24

Today is the last day of Advent Of Cyber 2023. Creating an image of Tracy Mcgreedy’s smart phone is the last piece of evidence we need to prove is his guilt.

Digital Forensics is a method of using science to solve crimes. I think this field is fascinating, law enforcement using technology to make a case is pretty new and exciting.

The thing that makes TryHackMe great is the gamification of cybersecurity and ethical hacking, imagine applying this to solve crimes and help people!

Following the steps in the write up, we open a case in autopsy.

Adding the image from Tracy Mcgreedy’s phone should make your screen look something like this.

However, it is not necessary to make the case yourself. I tried and the virtual machine became very slow.

Just loading the case that has been made already, seems like a better alternative.

Task 1: One of the photos contains a flag. What is it?

Scrolling through the images folder we can find a flag.

Task 2: What name does Tracy use to save Detective Frost-eau’s phone number?

In contacts we find all contact in the phone, and notice a strange name that sounds like Detective Frost-eau.

Task 3: One SMS exchanged with Van Sprinkles contains a password. What is it?

Scrolling through the messages we find a conversation about a password.

Now that we’ve gathered all the evidence we need, we will make our case in front of a judge.
