• In automotive, packaging of finished goods according to customer requirements is very common
• Customer specific packaging was not possible in standard
• Protection of HUs against changes was missing
Scope
Creation of plan HUs using the Unified Package Builder (UPB)
• Synchronous GR posting of HUs including UPB information and sales
document reference
• Status management for HUs to prohibit changes
• Usage of UPB information in outbound deliveries to be used for picking
• Picking of HUs according to customer requirements
• New indicator in SD scheduling to activate the new process
Concept:
Customer-defined packing and picking is a streamlined, end-to-end process for handling units (HUs) that are created with a reference to a sales scheduling agreement and according to a packing instruction (PI) or packaging specification (PS).
In this process, products are packed in production( Manufacturing Discrete or Repetitive) according to customer-specific criteria. The resulting HUs can’t be modified and are stored in the warehouse before they are shipped to the customers. Before goods issue, the system ensures that only those HUs are picked that were packed according to the referenced sales scheduling agreement, packing instruction, or packaging specification.
The scenario is replicated using discrete manufacturing. In a discrete manufacturing environment when a predefined quantity of a finished product is completely produced into a pre-planned HU against a scheduling agreement, the production worker wants to post the goods receipt of the HU in the system. The HU carries the reference to the used packing instruction and the scheduling agreement.
Later on, after the HUs are putaway into the warehouse, HUs with the same packing instruction and for the same scheduling agreement shall be determined for outbound deliveries. Important is that only those HUs shall be picked which were produced using the packing instruction and were planned and produced for exactly this scheduling agreement.
Master Data:
Packing instruction of Finished Goods. POP1
Determination of packing instruction: POF1
Replication Steps:
GR of preplanned HUs for production order using packing instruction and scheduling agreement to an EWM managed storage location. GR and putaway of the HUs. Outbound delivery creation against the scheduling agreement. Picking of HUs using packing instruction and scheduling agreement. GI posting of HUs.
In an item, on the Shipping tab, apply the picking criteria for handling units (HU) so that the system picks according to the sales scheduling agreement and packing instructions or packing specifications (PI/PS). Below example is used wit PI.
Save the HU:
UPB engine is updated.

An outbound delivery is created for your schedule agreement. This LE Outbound delivery is directly distributed to the EWM.
ODO captures the stamp of picking as per Sales Document reference.
The reference of sales document SO is tied to item, which implies item HU has to picked as per SO reference only.
