In the intricate landscape of chemical manufacturing and distribution, regulatory compliance is a paramount concern. One critical aspect that demands attention is Poison Centre Notifications (PCN). This process plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safety of products and, by extension, the well-being of consumers and the environment.
Poison Centre Notifications are regulatory obligations that mandate companies to provide detailed information about hazardous mixtures they place for consumer sale in the EU. The primary goal is to enhance the capabilities of poison centers in responding effectively to emergency situations involving chemical incidents. These notifications contain crucial data, such as the composition of the mixture, toxicological information, and appropriate emergency health and safety advice.
Why is this important:
So how does SAP S/4HANA for product compliance make this possible. As a product stewardship specialist, you want to add the purpose to sell industrial chemicals within the European Union. When you do the compliance assessments for the product, you decide whether or not a PCN is applicable.
If it’s required, then you need to generate a Unique Formula Identifier (UFI) and make a dossier for the PCN for the European Chemical Agency. After submission, the UFI can be printed on labels and safety data sheets. For unpackaged products, the UFI can be printed on the safety data sheet instead of the EU label. One thing to remember, to create a UFI you can use a partner solution like 3E or opesus, or directly via the ECHA portal.
To begin, you go into the Manage Compliance Requirements – Safety Data Sheet app and create a new regulation. Then select the compliance pattern, safety data sheet management. Fill in the data and release it. Then in the Activate Compliance Requirement – Safety Data Sheet app, you need to activate the compliance requirement. Going to the Manage Compliance Purpose app, you create a new purpose and add the compliance requirement you’ve activated after all other information is added.
After activating a new compliance requirement, you can use the Manage Poison Centre Notification app to set the registration status and the unique formula identifier. This data, when released, is used for further business processes.
