I'm not entirely sure if you can really compare the two or say that the John Deere one from a couple days ago or others are "ahead of the curve". The one you linked is using DeHackEd to patch the original executable to load whatever assets it wants or modify game behavior, this achieves code execution without modifying the original binary. They both have different approaches and different goals.
